This course is designed to help people who are interested in developing their interpersonal skills or who are interested in working as a counsellor. This course will cover skills that are used by those who work in the caring profession such as Doctors, Nurses and Social Workers. The course will introduce you to the basics of counselling and will help you to understand what counselling actually is. The technique used through out this course is known as Person Centred which forms the basis of most counselling.

The course consists of four modules:

Module one: The basics of counselling. The core conditions. Confidentiality, Ethics, Values and Beliefs.

Module two: Communication Skills. Looking at Verbal and Non Verbal Communication and why it is important.

Module three: Meeting and greeting people. Reflecting, mirroring, summarising and paraphrasing during counselling sessions

Module four: Beginnings and Endings. When to end counselling: premature endings, natural endings. How to end counselling.

Each module contains exercises throughout and has set questions at the end of each module. This will let me assess your knowledge on the topic. The course can be done in your own time but it is recommended that you complete it within six months. You will receive feedback from me on the end of modules questions.
